OffCenter & Joe Munley’s Puppet Theater

These puppet show performances are at OffCenter, a community art hive located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joe Munley has been hosting this group for over 60 monthly performances that occur during Artwalk, which occurs on the first Friday of each month (usually). When Joe West from Theater of Death asked me to come up with an act for his Vaudephil summer performances, I came up with a one-man, macabre puppet show. I stopped by on one Artwalk evening to check out an OffCenter performance (which wasn’t actually happening that night), and see if I could get some advice about operating two rod arms with one hand. I met Joe and some other members, and then began attending their weekly Tuesday meetings. This is a collaborate writing process, where participants spitball ideas based on the upcoming OffCenter theme for the month. The performances below were mostly written by me after taking spitball notes and trying to incorporate as many of the participants ideas as I could into one story. https://www.offcenterarts.org/
